Polishing airplane windows

The extra large Buff Ball effectively polishes large surfaces, yet the round shape goes into concave areas easily. The material polishes without scratching or burning the plastic. The ball has a unique self-cooling design to prevent overheating. The BuffBall is washable and reusable. It does not lint or tear like other foam polishing balls, and it will last wash after wash. As an aircraft window manufacturer OEM , we are well versed in aircraft window production.

Ammonia can craze plastic and Plexiglas; always make sure any cleaner you use is Plexiglas safe, and preferably use aircraft windshield cleaner like Prist or Kleer to Land, available at most aircraft supply houses and FBOs. Also, never use a circular motion when wiping your windows. Always use a back-and-forth motion that aligns with the airflow over the surface.

This will reduce scratches in multiple directions and reduce glare when flying into the sun. Finally, if your window is noticeably dusty, grab a hose and use copious amounts of water to rinse the dust and dirt off before using mechanical means to clean the window.

In the case of smaller damages, many aircraft manufacturers have given permission to polish the windows. In accordance with AMM , the depth of the damage is inspected to make sure if polishing is a suitable solution. After the inspection, polishing of scratches and chips is carried out in order to achieve ideal transparency. After polishing, the thickness is inspected to make sure it is in accordance to the requirements in the directives of the aircraft producer.

Polishing is carried out on-wing — removing windows from the aircraft is not needed.
