It is generally a good idea to clear the check box for "Detect language automatically. If the language of new documents is not the desired language, go to File Options Language and make sure that the desired language is set as preferred.
Generally this works best if the same language is the default Windows language. Your description suggests that the table is not in the main body of the document. Perhaps it is in a text box? In that case, you definitely have to deal with the table content separately. Here, re- applying language to all the text in the main body of the document, including table cells, works every time. I also recommend checking the language specified for the Normal style and for the table style, and change the language for both styles, if necessary.
I find hiding the Find command under the Editing button to be annoying, but that is another matter and I can live with it. When I type new text in an existing document, correctly spelled words such as "core", "license", "preparation", and "amendment" show on the screen with the wavy red underline indicating they are misspelled.
