And hope LL Bean comes to its senses and returns to the far superior earlier design so that I can buy a new pair of pants that fits.

I am posting a photo of the old style with the pant legs zipped off since I have no idea how long ago I purchased them or when the style was changed. One thing I will say about LL Bean quality - that old pair has held up remarkably well. I am so thankful I lost weight rather than gained so that I can continue to wear them! The pants are petite but I find that the zip off of the legs to be too low.

As a woman in her 50s, I'm no longer wearing "short shorts," so the longer inseam on these shorts is nice.

The side pockets are a little shallow, but the presence of the other pockets--which zip or Velcro--make up for it. I especially like the additional smaller zippered pocket tucked into the right side pocket. Good for securing cash, change, or spare camera batteries. The back zippered pockets are large enough to hold a passport. Wish there was a left-side thigh pocket like the one on the right. The waist on the size 4 was a just a little bit large on me, but the included belt took care of it.
