I find it amusing that you so strongly advise against using hyphens in a computer name, yet Microsoft automatically names Windows systems using a hyphen!

It's clearly asking what the allowed characters are for a variety of filesystems, something that's quite handy if you're looking to use a common base. I see this as no different than asking what any specific limitation is. Switching to a local user account and back again also helps. You can also try creating a new admin account if this doesn't work. The below method will work whether you have a local account or not.
